Last night, Tuesday 9 November 2021, science came to WA Parliament House with an event organised by the Australian Society for Medical Research (ASMR).
Pictured are Lisa O’Malley MLA with NCARD postdocs (from left) Dr Scott Fisher, Dr Alistair Cook and Dr Jon Chee in the Aboriginal People’s Gallery.
The NCARD team caught up with previous visitors to NCARD, Simon Millman MLA, and local member for Nedlands (where NCARD is based) Dr Katrina Stratton MLA. In 2022 Katrina will co-convene a parliamentary committee, “Friends of Medical Research” with Libby Mettam MLA, to promote and advocate for WA’s medical researchers within parliament.
A highlight of the night was hearing from the WA Health Minister, the Hon Roger Cook giving WA commitment to the Medical Research Future Fund, which is now approaching maturity and will begin to provide increasing support to Western Australia’s medical researchers, truly one of the State’s great resources.
Science Lands in Parliament is to become a biennial event, and NCARD acknowledges Dr Britt Clynick and Dr Kimberley Wang for organising, and for Dr Katrina Stratton’s close support.
