Professor Anna Nowak has been elected as President of the International Mesothelioma Interest Group (iMig) by her peers.
The news was announced at the iMig 2023 conference in Lille earlier this year, and has today been officially confirmed. Prof Nowak succeeds Associate Professor Samuel Armato of the University of Chicago, who will now take on the position of immediate past president. As president of iMig
Prof Nowak is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) at the University of Western Australia. As a researcher and clinician, Anna has had a decorated career. Trained as an oncologist, Anna completed her PhD under Professor Bruce Robinson in 1999. She has won two iMig awards – the Young Investigator Award in 2000, and the Wagner Award in 2021. As a clinician-researcher, she specialises in mesothelioma and brain cancer, and is currently a study chair on the DREAM3R clinical trial testing the combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy in mesothelioma patients.
