Xiao earned his PhD in bioinformatics and genomics from the University of Western Australia in 2020. He has amassed extensive experience and numerous publications in the field of genomics and bioinformatics. As a bioinformatics specialist, Xiao has spearheaded pioneering research and development for over 13 years. His career includes roles as a Bioinformatician at leading genomics centres such as the Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI, China, from 2010 to 2015) and Genomics WA (Australia, from 2020 to 2024).
His research interests are focused on deepening our understanding of how genomes function and evolve by analysing and interpreting large-scale genomics data and developing bioinformatics solutions. He joined NCARD in 2024 and has been working on using gene sequencing to identify mutations that may be useful for stimulating the immune response to cancer.
