A recent bibliometric analysis of global pleural mesothelioma biomarker research has highlighted the strong contribution of Western Australian researchers and institutions in this field. Analysing 662 publications from 2002 to 2024, the study identified The University of Western Australia (UWA) as the most prolific institution and NCARD’s Scientific Director, Prof Jenette Creaney, as the leading author by both publication output and citation impact.
The paper also recognised Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital as a leading institution and described it, together with UWA, as forming a core hub of the collaboration network. It also names Prof Bruce W. Robinson and Prof Anna Nowak among key contributors in the field.
The findings provide external recognition of the strength and sustained impact of pleural mesothelioma biomarker research in Western Australia. Biomarker research plays an important role in improving diagnosis, prognosis, treatment selection and monitoring in pleural mesothelioma, and remains a major area of international research interest.
The National Centre for Asbestos Related Diseases (NCARD) is part of the University of Western Australia (UWA) and the Institute for Respiratory Health (IRH).
